Learning together

BitDevs Kisumu

Stanley co-founded BitDevs Kisumu, where we hold Socratic seminars: we read Bitcoin and Lightning developments together, ask questions and learn from each other. No one lectures; everyone brings something.

BitDevs Kisumu is sponsored by Btrust, and its mission of growing Bitcoin developers across Africa and the Global South is ours too.

Open source

Stanley has had 24 pull requests merged into Minmo's open payment-channels registry, starting with Ethiopia's Telebirr channel (his fork).

The next goal is to become a Bitcoin code reviewer: reading, testing and questioning other people's changes, the way Bitcoin Core is kept safe. Ye₿ente, our Bitcoin app for African households, is open source too.

Ethiopia

We are working towards introducing Bitcoin in Ethiopia: learning sessions, and tools that connect Bitcoin to the way people already pay, starting with Telebirr.

If you are in Ethiopia and want to learn or help, we would love to hear from you.

And every chance to learn more: fellowships, programmes and open-source projects looking for contributors and reviewers.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Learning sessions and help getting started cost nothing, with or without sponsors. The Bitcoin network charges its own small fees when you send a payment; those are paid to the network, not to us.

Will you ever hold my Bitcoin or ask for my recovery words?

We never ask for your recovery words: anyone who does, even claiming to be us, is trying to steal from you. Our lessons and setups leave your keys with you. The one exception is one you choose: Ye₿ente, our starter wallet, holds small amounts for you so you can begin in a minute, and we help you move to your own keys when you're ready.

Do you give investment advice?

No. We teach how Bitcoin works and how to use it safely. No price talk, no predictions.

I run a business. Can you help me accept Bitcoin?

Yes, as part of stage 2: we set it up with you, show your team how it works, and your keys stay with you.

How do we partner or sponsor?

Email hello@altradits.com with what you have in mind. Sponsors get a plain report of what their support made possible, and credit if they want it.
